I recent received an email from KWJWD Ministries www.kwjwd.org and it asked have we we been married to Christ to long?
I've copied and pasted the message and ask have we forgotten our first love?
Have we been "married " (Ro 7:4) to Christ too long?
Are we taking our relationship for granted?
Do we love the Lord as fervently as we did when we got saved?
Jesus warns of loosing our first love of Him.
To the angel of the church of Ephesus write,...“I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; and you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name’s sake and have not become weary. Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Rev 2:1-5
We love Him because He loved us first. He wooed us. He gave of Himself so we could have fellowship with Him. And often after a while our passion for Him cools. We let life get in the way. Why should we keep our first love of the Lord? Because He never looses His love for us.
We love Him because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us 1 John 4:10
The proof of love is that love gives. What has our Lord given us?
He has given us forgiveness.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from
all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:8-9
He has given us everlasting life
the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom 6:23
begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you 1 Pet 1:3-4
He has given us a new life.
if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new 2 Cor 5:17
He has given us His spirit.
By this we know that we abide in Him, and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit 1 John 4:13
you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” Ro 8:15
He has given us a future
Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him 1 John 3:2
we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose Rom 8:28
He has given us our physical needs
seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matt 6:33
Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him. 1 John 5:14-15
For all He has given us, all He has asked for in return, is our love.
Let us be careful never to take His love for granted. Let us strive to keep our first love.
When we open our hearts and lives to His spirit, His will, His way then our "marriage" is fresh and exciting. We will receive joy everlasting. It is so easy, it is so simple. We just need to get over ourselves and into Him
Have we forgotten how we felt when we first asked Jesus into our hearts or have we let the cares and burdens and disillusions of this world take the place of that first love? Have we lost that which is more precious then life itself, our relationship with God? I think for myself I have forgotten, and I've been disillusioned with what is going on in my life and the worries and cares of just trying to live day to day. Of trying to make ends meet. I recently asked God WHY? Why is it that I am always facing huge financial problems. All I ask is a an end to the threat of losing all that I have once again! What I do ask is that God will forgive me for the fool that I am, for taking my eyes off what he has given me and let him do what he needs to do. I need to die to my selfish man and let God have control. So please keep me in pray if you read this as I need all the help I can get.
