Penies

Pennies, Pennies everywhere I look..... We just got back from Lincoln, Indiana the childhood home of our 16th President Abraham Lincoln. Yes, we went to the Release of the second Penny is a series of four for our President. I knew when we left there would be crowds but I was not prepared for the vast numbers. But I will say this, it was very well run and organized.
the Lincoln Amphitheatre was beautiful. It wasw built on the top of a hill, the building were made to look like log cabins. It was set in the middle of Lincoln State Park, nestled in between Dale, Indiana and Lincoln City, IN. When we got there Wednesday night it was hot and muggy, a storm was coming in. We got our motel room and settled down to rest before the BIG day.
We got to the Amphitheatre at 8:30 A.M. and were in line at the bottom of the hill. We waited 1.5 hours until the program for the Lincoln Celebration was finished and then we moved throught the line to get our 6 rolls of coins. By the time we got to the top of the hill another thousand or so individuals had joined the line. After we got our coins we sent Glen Jr and his wife on to the Lincoln City Post Offie to get the first rolls Stamped and cancelled. To any coin expert, this is a must to put more value on the coins as it willone day be very rare. Geln and I then went to the bottom of the line to go through again. All told Glen and I went through the line three times and we got a total of 48 rolls. We also got our progam for the ceremony stamped and cancelled. By the end of the day I was exhusted. We spent 4 hours getting coins and then another 6 waiting in line to get the rolls canceled. Lincoln City has a one window Post Office that normally is only open from 8:30 A.M. til 10:30 A.M. with over 3 thousand people descending on it the Post Master stayed open until after 7:00 P.M. to accomodate those waiting in line. All told it was a wonderful experience. One I shared with my husband and one to remember for the rest of my days.
